Ho, June 23, GNA – Mr Mawutor Agbavitor, the Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has marked his birthday by donating educational materials, food items, and financial support to schools, patients and prison inmates at Ho.
The outreach formed part of his commitment towards giving back to society and supporting vulnerable groups within the community.
Mr Agbavitor visited schools including Ho Bankoe E.P. Primary and JHS School and Philip Akpo Memorial Junior High School, where he donated school bags, exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers and others to pupils.
He also joined the children to cut a birthday cake, sing and interact with them, creating a memorable experience for the pupils.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Agbavitor said he did not believe in celebrating his birthday alone but preferred using the occasion to share with others and support those in need.
“I don’t believe in celebrating my birthday alone. I believe in sharing with people. I made a commitment to myself that whenever God blesses me, I will also be a blessing to others,” he said.
He explained that after visiting the schools, he proceeded to the Ho Central Prisons where he donated bags of rice, sugar, gari, drinks, bottled water, detergents, soaps, biscuits and other food items to support the welfare of inmates.
The NDC Regional Chairman later visited the Children’s Ward of the Ho Teaching Hospital where he donated food items, towels, bag packs among other things, to support the care of young patients.
He also assisted some patients by paying their outstanding medical bills to enable them to access treatment and, in some cases, return home after recovery.
He said many people required only modest support to undergo laboratory tests, medical scans or purchase prescribed medication, and society must not ignore such needs.

Mr Agbavitor dismissed suggestions that the outreach was politically motivated, insisting that the exercise was purely humanitarian and had no connection with political ambitions.
“I am already a very visible person. I am already the Regional Chairman. I don’t need to do anything to be seen. This is simply a day I have chosen to mark by supporting others. It has nothing political to it,” he stressed.
Assistant Director of Prisons P.K. Asiamah, the Second in command of the Ho Central Prison, who received the items on behalf of the Ho Central Prisons, expressed gratitude to Mr Agbavitor for the gesture and assured him that the donations would be used for their intended purpose.
“We are indeed grateful for your kind gesture. The items will be put to good use, and we pray for God’s blessings and strength upon you,” he said.
Other beneficiaries and community members commended the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of compassion and social responsibility that positively impacted schools, healthcare facilities and correctional institutions within the municipality.
