Tamale, Jan. 31, 2026 – Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), has led a delegation from the company’s Head Office to the Northern Region to assess and address water distribution challenges in the Tamale Metropolis.
As part of the visit, Mr. Mutawakilu called on the Lamansha-Naa, Alhaji Mohammed Iddrisu, who pledged his support to GWL in efforts to improve water supply in the area.
Mr. Mutawakilu assured the traditional authority and residents that measures were being put in place to ensure adequate and consistent water flow across the metropolis, particularly during the forthcoming Ramadan period.
The delegation later engaged GWL regional management and staff in Tamale to deliberate on operational challenges affecting water distribution.

During the meeting, a comprehensive management strategy was outlined, with the Regional Chief Manager and his team presenting key initiatives aimed at enhancing water production and distribution in the region.
The Managing Director, in a separate engagement, inspected the Nawuni River, where illegal sand winning activities have posed a threat to the river’s water levels and overall integrity.
Expressing concern about the environmental degradation, Mr. Mutawakilu stressed that protecting water sources was critical to ensuring sustainable and reliable water supply.
He commended the chiefs of Dalun and Nawuni for their collaboration with GWL in safeguarding the river and called for intensified enforcement against illegal activities.

Mr. Mutawakilu urged local authorities, security agencies, and other stakeholders to work together to curb illegal sand winning and protect the river for future generations.
The visit, he noted, reflected GWL’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities, local government institutions, and communities to find sustainable solutions to water supply challenges.
He reiterated the company’s determination to restore public confidence through improved service delivery, transparent communication, and responsive customer care.
