Gov’t commended for decision to complete inherited projects

Darbaa (Ash), Feb. 09, GNA – Oheheba Owusu-Afriyie IV, the Apagyahene of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has lauded the government for its decision to continue and complete all inherited development projects across the country.

He said, if all political leaders continued and completed the projects they inherited from their predecessors, the story of development would have been different by now.

Oheneba Owusu-Afriyie, was speaking at the inauguration of a GHS 800,000.00 community centre at Dabaa in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti region.

The project was started by the district assembly under the NPP government and completed by the current NDC government.

He encouraged district assemblies to sustain that habit, to help promote accelerated community development in the country.

Oheneba Owusu-Afriyie said it was the intention of the traditional council to construct a fence wall, pavement blocks and beautify the landscape of the centre, to make it more recreational, complete, secured and attractive to event organisers and the public as a support to the Assembly

He stressed the need for district assemblies to include traditional rulers in development planning since they were permanent residents and could help supervise the execution of such projects in communities.

He said it was the duty of traditional rulers to support assembly members, who at times, hailed from different communities or rule multiple communities and have difficulties in visiting other communities regularly.

The facility aims to host a wide range of programmes to promote unity, civic engagement, community meetings, youth development initiatives, skills training and education workshops, cultural and social events among others.

Mr Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, the District Chief Executive (DCE) described the initiative as a directive from Presidency and would be sustained and implemented at all times.

He emphasised, that such projects and new ones would be provided in the district for the benefit of the residents and to improve the revenue drive of the Assembly.

“We will continue to build a district where every community feels the impact of government and the promise of development”, he stated.

The residents applauded the assembly and the government for completing the facility and making the inherited uncompleted Senior High School in the town operational.
