Foreign Ministry Refutes Claims of Approval for DVLA Services Abroad

Accra, Feb. 26, GNA – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied claims that it has approved the extension of services by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to selected countries abroad to register and renew driving licences for Ghanaians.

A statement issued by the Ministry in Accra on Thursday said its attention had been drawn to a viral news headline alleging that staff of the DVLA had been granted approval to travel to countries including the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany to undertake such services.

It stated categorically that it had neither issued a directive to Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement.

“The Ministry is not aware of any new government policy to that effect,” the statement said.

It added that there was no record at the Ministry pointing to any purported new policy direction.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to our attention and no financial commitment as irrefutable evidence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs establishes,” it said.

The Ministry assured the general public of its commitment to transparency and financial prudence in public service delivery.
