Accra, Feb. 23, GNA – Dr Clement Abass Apaak, Deputy Minister for Education, has warned that students involved in recent acts of hooliganism in the Central Region would face severe sanctions.
The warning follows reports of physical hostility between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and the Swedru School of Business during the district inter-schools athletics competition in Agona Swedru.
“Even as we await the report from the Director General of the GES, let me state that the Minister for Education and I take a very serious view of these acts of violence,” Dr Apaak said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Education to the Ghana News Agency.
He said the Ministry condemned the acts of violence captured in viral videos and pledged that any student found culpable would be punished.
The Deputy Minister directed the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate the matter thoroughly.
The Director General is scheduled to meet the Central Regional Director of GES, district directors in whose jurisdictions the schools are located, and the heads of the schools on February 23, 2026, at the GES headquarters in Accra.
