Accra, Jan. 23, GNA – The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Nelson Blay Nokotey, a Level 300 Top-Up Journalism student, who was fatally knocked down by a vehicle.
The University has pledged to ensure that the perpetrator of the incident is identified, apprehended, and prosecuted in strict accordance with the law.
In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate in Accra on Thursday, January 22, the institution described the incident as a painful and untimely loss that has left the entire UniMAC community in shock and disbelief.
Management, on behalf of the Governing Council, faculty, staff, and students, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of the late Nokotey, noting that he was a valued and promising member of the institution.
“Vice-Chancellor Professor Eric Opoku Mensah, together with University officials, has met with the family of the deceased and separately engaged the Students’ Representative Council and the wider student body to commiserate with them,” the statement added.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed UniMAC’s solidarity and commitment to stand with the community during this difficult period.
Prof. Mensah further assured that the University, through its Dean of Students Affairs and Chief Security Officer, is collaborating closely with the Ghana Police Service to support ongoing investigations.
He emphasised that the institution is determined to ensure that the perpetrator of the incident is identified, apprehended, and prosecuted in strict accordance with the law.
The University underscored its commitment to justice, describing the incident as a criminal act that must not go unpunished.
