Adaklu Waya (V/R), Jan. 22, GNA – Mrs Susan Termley Akortia, the Adaklu District Director of the Department of Social Welfare, has called for periodic re-evaluation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme to ensure its effectiveness and impact on beneficiaries.
She said since the introduction of the Programme, it had not undergone a comprehensive assessment to determine its impact on beneficiaries.
Mrs Akortia made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Adaklu Waya.
She noted that the re-evaluation could be conducted using data from the Ghana National Household Programme.
Mrs Akortia said such a review would promote transparency, accountability, and the efficient and effective delivery of the Programme.
She said the exercise would also enable the expansion of the Programme to benefit more vulnerable households.
Describing LEAP as a vital government intervention, Mrs Akortia said it was aimed at supporting vulnerable persons to improve their livelihoods and economic well-being.
“LEAP is designed to support households whose economic conditions do not allow them access to basic necessities of life such as healthcare, education and others,” she said.
Mrs Akortia disclosed that about 3,000 households had so far benefited from the Programme in the Adaklu District.
She advised beneficiaries to take full advantage of the support to improve their living conditions.
LEAP is a cash transfer programme introduced by the Government in 2008 to assist extremely poor and vulnerable households.
