Ho (V/R), June 22, GNA – Two persons have been confirmed dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a multi-vehicle collision at the Civic Centre traffic light area in Ho on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the accident occurred at about 1222 hours when a Hyundai truck, with registration number GE 342-11, reportedly suffered brake failure while descending the Galenkui Mountain.
The truck, driven by Julius Adjei, 32, was transporting sedimentary rocks, locally known as “Klefe stones,” from Klefe to Dzodze.
Police said the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle after the braking system failed, causing it to crash into multiple road users along the route.
The truck reportedly first collided with a Bajaj tricycle at OLA Top before crashing into a TVS tricycle and a Hoajue motorbike at the Civic Centre traffic light intersection. It eventually came to a halt after ramming into a fence wall belonging to the State Transport Corporation (STC).
Vehicles involved in the accident included a TVS tricycle with registration number M-26-VR 445 VR, ridden by Salah Emmanuel, 22; an unregistered Hoajue motorbike ridden by Joshua Ganogo, 21; and a Bajaj tricycle with registration number M-26-VR 485 VR, ridden by Selorm Adjei, 21.
Victims were transported to the Ho Teaching Hospital and the Ho Municipal Hospital for treatment.
Those receiving treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital include Bethel Adombire, 25; Vivian Adu-Gyamfi, 20; and Julient Amuzu.
At the Ho Municipal Hospital, the injured include the truck driver, Julius Adjei; Salah Emmanuel; Selorm Adjei; Francis Aglah, 49, the driver’s mate; Police Constable Addrah Thelma, 26, of the Ejisu Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU); and General Constable Francis Dzanku, 30, of the Field Police Unit Base at Kete-Krachi.
Police said two male victims, identified as Eric and Joshua Ganogo, were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Their bodies have been deposited at the Ho Municipal Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The accident also caused damage to the truck, the two tricycles, the motorbike, and the STC fence wall.
The vehicles involved have since been impounded at a nearby garage pending inspection by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Meanwhile, residents have expressed concern over the spate of fatal road accidents at the Civic Centre area, noting that four people have lost their lives in two separate crashes within a week.
They described the situation as alarming and called on relevant authorities to take urgent measures to prevent further loss of lives.
