Professor Lord Mensah cautions against records manipulation

Koforidua, Jan. 15, GNA – Professor Lord Mensah, Head of Local Government Service, has cautioned members of staff against unlawful manipulation of records that undermined the integrity of the service.

He cited instances where some Human Resource Officers conived with employees to unlawfully alter Dates of Birth, and other official records.

Prof. Mensah was addressing staff of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC) in Koforidua, upon a visit to interact with them about their challenges and means of redress.

He said records support openness and transparency by documenting and providing evidence of work activities and by making them available to the public.

Also, records support quality programmes and services, inform decision making, and help meet organizational goals.

He warned that any officer found culpable for manipulating official records would be subjected to the rigours of the law because it is a criminal offense.

The National Security had been engaged to support ongoing investigations, and a number of Human Resource Officers had already been identified, he disclosed.

Prof. Mensah called for the intervention of the Municipal and District Assemblies to prioritise investment in staff training and capacity building workshops that aim to improve discipline, performance and service delivery.

The Local Government Service exists to secure effective administration and management of the decentralised local government system in the country.
