Vakpo (V/R), Jan. 15, GNA — Mr Simon Kwaku Mawuko, the North Dayi District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has urged young people to examine their own actions and stop seeing corruption solely as a problem caused by politicians.
He stressed that integrity begins with individuals.
He said corruption could only be eradicated when citizens, especially the youth, acknowledged their role and made conscious efforts to live upright lives for the betterment of Ghana.
Mr Mawuko made the call during activities to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) at Vakpo Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region, recently.
He explained that corruption does not start with grand scandals but with seemingly minor acts such as cheating in examinations, lying to protect friends, taking what does not belong to one and jumping queues.
“These are all forms of corruption which young people must consciously avoid,” he said.
The NCCE District Director encouraged students to uphold truthfulness even when it was difficult, noting that honesty today safeguards the future of the nation.
“The fight against corruption is not about age, power or money. It is about the daily choices made by students, teachers and citizens,” he stated.
Madam Victoria Achoribo, the Headmistress of Vakpo SHTS, commended the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) for the initiative and advised students to cultivate the habit of doing what was always right regardless of circumstances.
Mr Mawuko also delivered similar messages at Vakpo Cornerstone Basic School and Gameli Preparatory School, where he reiterated that fighting corruption was a shared responsibility.
He called on citizens to actively participate in anti-corruption efforts and urged leaders to involve young people in development planning processes to instill integrity and accountability from an early age.
He emphasised that building a corruption-free society requires collective commitment and personal discipline at every level of society.
