Police lauds smooth, peaceful conduct of NPP presidential primary in Sunyani West

Odomase, (Bono), Jan. 31, GNA-Superintendent Eric Anaba, the Sunyani West Municipal Police Commander has lauded the smooth and peaceful conduct of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primary in the Municipality.

In an interview, he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the elections were going on smoothly and urged delegates to maintain the calm atmosphere.

He emphasised that the heavy police presence was not to intimidate the delegates, but to ensure that the event was conducted peacefully.

“The police are here just to protect lives and properties and also ensuring that the elections are conducted in an atmosphere of peace and not to intimidate anybody”, Supt Anaba explained.

He said that: “The police value public cooperation”, saying that “without that our work will be more challenging for us. So, we’re not here to threaten anyone; lives are precious, and we aim to preserve them”.

Supt Anaba said 70 police personnel were deployed to each voting center, with additional personnel on standby, ready to respond to any situation.

Meanwhile, the elections are underway at the Sunyani West Constituency with about 1,061 delegates expected to cast their votes.

Voting is taking place at two centers (A and B) at the Odomase Presby Social Center in the constituency.

During a visit, Mr. Eric Kani Owusu, the Sunyani West Electoral Officer, said he was optimistic that the delegates would turn up in their numbers to cast their ballots.

Delegates were noticed waiting patiently in queues at the two voting centers to cast their ballots.
