Accra, Aug. 18, GNA — The Ghana-Anhui Chamber of Commerce and Industry has donated 2,120 sports items to support the Constituency Games initiative.
The donation, presented to the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee (RMPC) at a ceremony in Accra, included 600 pairs of footwear and 1,520 T-shirts in sizes ranging from XS to 3XL.
The contribution is expected to support efforts to expand grassroots sports participation and aid talent identification across the country through the Constituency Games programme.
Mr Samson Deen, Chairman of the RMPC, described the donation as an investment in young people and the government’s sports development agenda.
“This is not merely a donation. It is an investment in Ghana’s young people and in the government’s Reset Ghana Sports Agenda,” he said.
He said the Constituency Games were designed to ensure that young people were not excluded from sports because of their location, economic circumstances or background.
“The central purpose of the Constituency Games is to take opportunity to every constituency and create a pathway through which talent can be identified, nurtured and developed,” Deen said.
He added that Ghana’s sporting potential could be strengthened through effective structures, partnerships and sustained investment.
“With the right systems, credible partnerships and sustained investment, Ghanaian sport can once again take centre stage and project our country positively to the world,” he said.
Deen called on corporate institutions, diplomatic missions, development partners and individuals to support the initiative.
Mr Tang Wei, Chairman of the Ghana-Anhui Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the donation formed part of the Chamber’s corporate social responsibility programme and reflected its commitment to Ghana’s development.
“Sport is a powerful force that brings people together, promotes peace and strengthens communities,” he said.
“We hope these items will serve their intended purpose and create meaningful opportunities for young people. We remain ready to support this important national initiative whenever we are called upon.”
The donation comes after the inauguration of the NSA Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee, and the launch of a fundraising and partnership drive aimed at mobilising private-sector and institutional support for the Constituency Games.
The games to broaden access to sports at the community level while creating a pathway for athletes to progress from constituency competitions to regional and national levels.
The Constituency Games are being implemented under the theme: “Uniting Communities, Inspiring Talent and Building the Future.”
