By Daniel Agbesi Latsu

Kadjebi (O/R), Jan. 31, GNA – Mr Rabiu Awal, the Akan New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman, has commended party delegates for their peaceful conduct during the party’s presidential primary held at the Rashid Bawa Assembly Hall of the Kadjebi Senior High School (KASEC).

According to him, the calm and orderly behaviour exhibited by delegates before, during and after the voting process, was a clear demonstration of the NPP’s commitment to internal democracy and peaceful political engagement. He noted that such conduct strengthened party unity and set a good example ahead of future political activities.

Mr Awal made the remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) following the official declaration of the results.

Out of the 655 accredited delegates expected to vote, 623 turned up to cast their ballots. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the winner in the constituency with 344 votes, while Dr Bryan Acheampong secured 206 votes. Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong obtained 65 votes. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum polled six votes, with Kwabena Agyei Agyepong receiving two votes.

Mr Awal expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exercise, praising the Electoral Commission officials, party executives and security personnel for their professionalism and cooperation, which contributed to the incident-free process.

Mr Agbesi Atsrima, an agent for Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, speaking with GNA, described the outcome as a collective victory for the party, stressing that the unity displayed by all aspirants and their supporters was more important than individual results.

Similarly, Mr Erasmus Ansah, an agent for Dr Bawumia, said the results reflected the confidence delegates had in the former Vice President’s leadership and vision for the party. He added that the peaceful primary had energised party members and positioned the NPP strongly for future elections.

He expressed optimism that the unity and discipline demonstrated during the primary would translate into electoral success, adding that he was confident the NPP would regain political power in the 2028 general elections.

The primary in Akan Constituency concluded without any reported incidents, reinforcing calls by party leaders for continued unity, tolerance, and respect among members as the party prepares for the next phase of its political activities.
