Dzodze (VR), Sept. 16, GNA – Torgbui Ege IV, the ‘Dutor-Fia’ and leader of the Fiagbedu (Middle) Wing of Dzodze, has called for an end to reckless motorcycle riding, particularly during funerals and weekends within the Dzodze enclave.
He said the increasing display of dangerous riding by some motorcyclists during funeral ceremonies and other social events was a major concern and required the collective attention of traditional authorities, families, parents, the youth, and law enforcement agencies.
Torgbui Ege, who is also the Acting President of the Dzodze Traditional Council and Deputy Oti Regional Police Commander, said funerals were occasions for families and communities to mourn their departed relatives, but some motor riders used such gatherings as opportunities for reckless riding, speeding and dangerous manoeuvres.
He urged motorcycle riders to exercise restraint and discipline on the roads and ensure that their activities did not put their own lives or those of other road users at risk.
According to him, the consequences of reckless riding could be devastating, particularly for the youth, who constituted an important human resource for the development of Dzodze and the country.
He said it would be unfortunate for young people with their entire lives ahead of them to lose their lives through avoidable road crashes resulting from reckless riding.
Torgbui Ege appealed to parents and families organising funerals to discourage young people from engaging in dangerous motorcycle displays and other forms of irresponsible riding during funeral activities.
He also called on community leaders and residents to support efforts to promote responsible road use and report dangerous riding practices that threatened public safety.
Torgbui Ege stressed that protecting lives required a collective effort, noting that traditional authorities and the Police had a shared responsibility to ensure peace, order, and safety within communities.
He urged motorcyclists to obey traffic regulations, avoid excessive speed, and refrain from dangerous overtaking and other manoeuvres that could result in crashes.
Torgbui Ege said the youth remained the future leaders of the communities and therefore their lives must be protected from preventable dangers.
He called for greater cooperation between traditional authorities, the police, families, and community members to curb reckless riding and promote road safety, particularly during periods when funeral activities attracted large numbers of people and motorcyclists.
The Ketu North Municipal Assembly has also been advocating responsible road use and safety among young people in the Municipality.
Rev. Martin Amenaki, Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu North, has on various occasions emphasised the need for residents, particularly the youth, to observe responsible conduct and support efforts to maintain law and order within their communities.
The renewed call for caution comes as funerals and other community activities continue to attract increased movement of motorcycles and other vehicles, making responsible road use essential to protecting lives and property.
Torgbui Ege IV assumed the position of Acting President of the Dzodze Traditional Council in July 2026 and has since been engaging stakeholders on issues affecting the welfare, peace, and development of the traditional area.
