New York, Jan 24, (dpa/GNA) – The NBA has postponed the Minnesota Timberwolves’ game against the Golden State Warriors in Minneapolis after another fatal shooting in the city linked to federal officers.
A few hours before the planned tip-off on Saturday, the North American professional basketball league said in a statement that the game will now be played on Sunday.
A person died in Minneapolis after shots were fired by a federal officer, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The person was declared dead at the scene, the department added on Saturday.
In contrast, the Minneapolis police chief said the man died shortly afterwards in hospital. He added that the man was a 37-year-old white resident of Minneapolis who was assumed to be a US citizen.
Many details of the incident remain unclear. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the man was armed.
In early January, an immigration officer in Minneapolis shot a 37-year-old woman dead in her car. The case provoked widespread shock and protests.
The government described the action as self-defence, while opposition Democrats and demonstrators spoke of excessive force and a lack of transparency.
