Fiapre, (Bono), July 30 GNA-The Ghana European Center for Jobs, Migration and Development (GEC) of the GIZ Ghana, has urged graduates to take advantage of German Opportunity Card and European Union (EU) Blue Card to travel and work abroad.
According to Mr Dennis Benneh Diawuo, the Technical Adviser at the GEC, those Cards offered an opportunity for graduates and youth with employable skills training, academic and professional certificates to apply and acquire visas to travel to Europe without difficulties.
He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on the sidelines of 2026 celebration of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) international da, at Fiapre near Sunyani.
Mr Diawuo highlighted the dangers of using the desert and the high seas to reach Europe, saying that the Cards had made it easier for applicants to acquire visas and travel to Europe for jobs.
He cautioned the youth against the temptation of traveling abroad through unapproved routes or irregular migration, saying that doing so exposed migrants to several dangers.
The international day is being held on the theme: “Local Industries, Global Futures: Youth Mobility and International Parternerships”; and the GEC is being implemented by the GIZ Ghana in collaboration with the UENR.
The event sought to celebrate cultural diversity while promoting international education, regular migration pathways, academic exchange opportunities and global partnership and was attended by other foreign students from Ethiopia and Germany.
Mr Diawuo reminded the youth that travelling abroad through the high seas was not guaranteed, and advised potential travellers to access the services for traveling opportunities and advice free of charge.
He expressed concern about the growing trend of irregular migration among the youth in the Bono Region.
Mr Diawuo said the GEC was collaborating with the Labour Department and advised potential travelers living outside Accra to contact the Labour Department at the regional levels for services of the GEC.
He said the GEC remained dedicated to promoting informed migration and international mobility.
Earlier, Professor Amos Kabo-Bah, the Dean, International Relations of the UENR noted that besides academic work, there was the need to expose the students to international opportunities, develop and build innovative ideas.
He indicated that some of the students had business ideas, but the challenge was how to develop those ideas, hence the need to offer them the opportunities to pitch and share ideas and thereby build on those business ideas.
Prof Kabo-Baah stressed that as the engine of growth, there was the need for the university to support the students to go into the private sector and to create jobs for themselves.
