Tema, Jan. 13, GNA – The final funeral rites of Alhaji Adam Abubakar, the late Tema Metropolitan Chief Imam, have been held in Tema, with a call on Muslim youth to pursue both Islamic and secular education.
Mr Armah Robert Adam, the first nephew of the late Tema Metropolitan Chief Imam, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview during the funeral, that pursuing both Islamic and secular education would better position them for leadership and national development.
Mr Adam said the message had been communicated to community chiefs and elders to ensure that formal education received equal attention alongside the Islamic one, popularly known as “Makaranta” or formally called the Madrasas.

He said the late Chief Imam consistently emphasised the importance of secular education as a means of empowering Muslim youth, to compete effectively in all sectors of society.
He noted that the vision of the late Chief Imam was to see Muslims represented across diverse fields of education and employment, thereby contributing meaningfully to national progress.
Mr Adam said the Chief Imam’s guidance had shaped the mindset of many young people, inspiring them to pursue education, discipline, and purposeful lives.
He described the late Islamic leader as a symbol of humility and wisdom, noting that elders and senior members of the community frequently sought his counsel on matters of faith, leadership, and coexistence.
Madam Ebi Bright, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, who donated cash on behalf of the President and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), described the passing of the Chief Imam as a great loss to the municipality and the Muslim community.
She prayed that Allah, in His infinite mercy, would grant him the highest rank in Jannah and asked for strength, comfort, and patience.
