SSNIT pensioners receiving payment for May, after technical hitches on payday

Accra, May 22, GNA – Pensioners under the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) began receiving their May 2026 payments on Friday after a brief delay the previous day.

The Ghana News Agency gathered that some pensioners were unable to access their benefits on Thursday, May 21, due to technical challenges which temporarily disrupted the payment process.

The management of SSNIT said payments for May were effected on Thursday and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring timely and efficient disbursement of pensions.

The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) and Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) confirmed that payments were underway on Friday morning, with pensioners seen at banking halls completing withdrawals.

Some retirees told the GNA they had received payment notifications and successfully accessed their funds.

Charles, a retired health worker, acknowledged the inconvenience but appealed for calm.

Madam Betty, a retired administrator, said she had received her notification and was heading to the bank.

“I didn’t know there was any challenge with the payment, they didn’t tell us anything…They should not delay our payment; if there is any challenge they should tell early enough,” she said.
