Kumasi, Jan. 26, GNA – A devastating fire has ravaged spare parts shops and vehicles at the auto mechanics enclave at Sofoline, in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Twenty-seven vehicles and 22 metal containers stocked with vehicular spare parts were completely consumed by the fire, which occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026, in the evening.

Divisional Officer (DO) II Peter Addai, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said fortunately, there were no casualties.

According to him, the GNFS received the distress call at 2000 hours, and the officers arrived at the scene at exactly 2014 hours.

On arrival, the team of fighters noticed that the fire had engulfed the site and was spreading to other areas, hence, the first team called for backup.

At 2151 hours, DO II Addai said both teams from Bremang and Twedie fire stations brought the fire under control and was completely extinguished at 2246 hours.

Although investigation into the cause of the fire was underway, the PRO said preliminary investigation suggest that the fire outbreak was caused by a burning refuse.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but we had some few reports pointing to the fact that somebody was burning refuse and it started the fire,” said DO II Addai.

He advised residents, traders and citizens to be cautious in dealing with fire, especially, as the Harmattan sets in.

He said individuals, who needed to burn their refuse should always standby with a bucket of water or sand to ensure that the fire set was completely dead before leaving the scene.

This, he noted would reduce fire outbreaks in the region and protect lives and properties from being lost to fire.
