Accra, Nov. 03, GNA – Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has commended Cenpower Generation Limited, operators of the Kpone Independent Power Plant (KIPP), for its significant contribution to Ghana’s electricity generation and energy security.

She gave the commendation at the 10th anniversary celebration of Cenpower Generation Limited at Kpone near Tema.

The Vice President also praised the company for its support to surrounding communities through environmental clean-up initiatives and assistance to educational institutions.

“I encouraged the company to continue strengthening these relationships while upholding high operational, environmental and safety standards,” she said.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang congratulated the Board, Management, staff and partners of Cenpower Generation Limited on the milestone, marking 10 years since construction began on the Kpone Independent Power Plant.

She noted that the company’s operations had contributed significantly to ensuring reliable electricity supply, thereby supporting industrial growth, job creation, and national development.

The Vice President described the Kpone Independent Power Plant as Ghana’s first greenfield independent power project developed through project financing.

According to her, the project demonstrated the capacity of Ghanaian enterprise, technical expertise and strategic partnerships to deliver major infrastructure projects.

She noted that the plant’s ability to operate on multiple fuel sources enhanced flexibility and resilience in electricity generation.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang said the Government had undertaken significant measures to address financial challenges in the energy sector, including the management of outstanding obligations and the renegotiation of agreements to improve sustainability.

“Beyond generation capacity, we are working to ensure that electricity remains reliable, affordable and accessible, particularly for underserved communities,” Vice President Prof Opoku-Agyemang stated.

The Vice President said those efforts were critical to the Government’s broader development agenda.

She explained that investments in infrastructure, industrialisation and the 24-Hour Economy policy depended on a robust energy system capable of supporting businesses and sustaining production.
