Supreme Court resumes sittings amid nationwide JUSAG strike

‎Accra, Nov. 3, GNA – The Supreme Court on Tuesday held its scheduled sitting, with a five-member panel hearing cases despite an ongoing nationwide strike by Judicial Service staff.

‎‎A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the court showed that the panel was hearing cases, with some lawyers and members of the public also present in the courtroom.

‎‎‎A notice issued on November 2 and signed by Mr Musah Ahmed, Judicial Secretary, said the court would proceed with its normal business on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

‎”All counsel and parties with matters listed before the court are advised to take note and govern themselves accordingly.

‎‎‎”Pursuant to the direction of His Lordship, the Chief Justice, it is hereby notified for the information of all lawyers and parties to proceedings that the Supreme Court shall convene for its normal court business tomorrow, Tuesday, 3rd November 2026,” it stated.

‎‎Meanwhile, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe Bonney has reaffirmed his commitment to the prompt restoration of full court services, assuring the public that “the matter is being treated with utmost urgency.”

‎‎A statement issued by the Judicial Service said management was engaged in urgent discussions with relevant government stakeholders to resolve the issues underlying the strike.

‎‎“Our primary objective is to ensure that the administration of justice is not unduly hindered and that full court operations are restored as soon as possible,” it said.

‎‎The statement acknowledged that the strike could cause anxiety among litigants with cases pending before the courts and inconvenience legal practitioners.

‎‎It expressed regret over any disruption to justice delivery and appealed to the public, the Bar and court users to exercise patience and understanding.

‎‎“We sincerely regret any disruption to the justice delivery process.”

‎‎‎The statement also assured the public that the matter was receiving priority attention under the leadership of the Chief Justice.

‎‎‎The Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG) declared an indefinite nationwide strike on October 30, 2026, over the non-payment of reviewed salaries and allowances to its members for 10 months.

‎‎‎The strike began on Monday, November 2, 2026.
