Sunyani (Bono) Jan. 13, GNA- Business Owners in the Sunyani Municipality are giving President John Mahama a resounding endorsement, with many scoring his first year in office an impressive 80 per cent.
A survey by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) revealed widespread satisfaction with the current state of commodity prices among drivers, traders, and other business operators.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA,) in Sunyani, Mr Kofi Boateng, a trader, expressed optimism about the improving economic situation, saying “the system is getting better and hoped it continues, so that consumers and low-income earners could also feel it directly.”
His sentiments were echoed by businesses like Busia Ventures; a mobile phone shop, which has seen a 30 per cent decrease in prices, boosting its sales.
“The significant price reduction is bringing systemic stability and attraction to investors to come and do business in Ghana,” Mr Richmond Ofori, a trader said.
However, not all businesses are experiencing the same level of stability.
A trader known as ‘Maafia,’ who deals in ladies’ wear, expressed concerns about unstable prices.
He observed that although President Mahama’s economic policies were having a positive impact on some businesses in the region, the government must ensure that the benefits were felt by all Ghanaians.
Some Taxi drivers also called for reduced lorry fares to match the decrease in fuel prices.
At a Total fuel station, a litre of petrol was GH¢11.68p, while diesel cost GH¢12.38p, whilst that of the New Dormaa Goil station, was GH¢10.99p per litre for petrol and GH¢11.66p for a litre of diesel.
The survey suggests that President Mahama’s economic policies were having a positive impact on businesses in the region, but some stakeholders have urged the government to ensure that the benefits are felt by all Ghanaians.
