NACOC confirms arrest of Syrian with 40 kg of suspected cocaine

Accra, Nov. 2, GNA- The Narcotic Control Commission has confirmed the arrest of a Syrian at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, for following his arrival from Ghana with about 40 kg of suspected cocaine.

A statement issued and signed by PNCO Franci Opoku Amoah, Acting Director, Public Affairs and International Relations, NACOC said the cocaine was concealed in two pieces of luggage.

The statement said NACOC is working to arrest his accomplices in Ghana.

It noted that the successful apprehension the Syrian resulted from a “coordinated control delivery exercise carried out through close operational cooperation between Ghanaian and Labanese Drug Law Enforcement Authorities.”

The statement explained that the joint operation aimed to identify and apprehend targets at both ends of the supply chain while gathering vital intelligence to dismantle the broader transnational criminal syndicate behind the shipment.

“This operation underscores Ghana and Labanon’s collaborative commitment to disrupting international drug trafficking network through cross -boarder intelligence-sharing,” the statement added.
