Accra, Nov. 2, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect wanted in connection with the alleged murder of two persons at Sakumono in the Greater Accra Region.
The suspect, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, 72, was arrested at a hideout at Tikrom near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region on November 1, 2026.
Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, said the arrest followed a police manhunt launched after the October 30 incident.
The statement said preliminary investigations suggested the alleged killings stemmed from a financial dispute involving Anto and George Atuguba, one of the deceased persons.
Police alleged that George Atuguba had borrowed GH¢500,000 and failed to repay the money.
The statement said the suspect was apprehended following intelligence-led operations at his hideout.
“During the operation, a Smith and Wesson pistol together with seven (7) rounds of five ammunition was retrieved from him.”
Police said the firearm and ammunition had been retained as exhibits.
The statement said Anto was in police custody assisting with investigations.
Police identified the deceased persons as Irene Atuguba, 47, and George Atuguba, 57.
The statement alleged that on the morning of October 30, 2026, Anto went to the residence of the deceased persons with a woman identified as Beatrice Mumuni to demand repayment of the alleged debt.
Police said a misunderstanding allegedly ensued during which Anto allegedly shot and killed George Atuguba and Irene Atuguba.
The statement said Beatrice Mumuni had also been arrested and was assisting with investigations.
