Galo-Sota (VR), Jan. 16, GNA- Mr Rolex Agbey Miheso, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman of Anloga constituency in the Volta Region, has organised a free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration for residents of Galo-Sota.
He said the move was to promote quality healthcare delivery among underprivileged individuals who struggle to pay hospital bills.
Mr Miheso, during the exercise, told the Ghana News Agency that, many residents in the Galo-Sota community often sought medical assistance from party authorities to pay hospital bills, which prompted him to take action.
“The free registration exercise is part of my birthday celebration, l am focusing on helping underprivileged individuals to address some pressing healthcare challenges in the area,” he said.
The NDC Chairman explained that the collaboration with the NHIS branch at Anloga to facilitate the registration process, was to ensure that residents would access healthcare services without financial burdens.
He emphasised the importance of community support, stating that the initiative would go a long way in helping the community and promoting a sense of social responsibility.
He stated that Mr Richard Kwame Sefe, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Anloga, had recently commissioned a health canter at Galo-Sota, which made it essential for residents to have NHIS cards to access healthcare services.
“It will be of no use if we have a health centre here and people cannot access free medical care. My intention is to see every individual been healthy.”
He said that the Galo-Sota health centre, which was NHIS-accredited, provided comprehensive healthcare services to the community, saying the centre was recently renovated and commissioned by the MP at a cost of GH₵ 121,150 to enhance quality healthcare delivery.
The renovation works included reconstructing cracked walls, replacing windows and nets, installing new ceilings and doors, and painting various departments with the facility currently having three personnel who attends to between 150 and 200 patients monthly.
Madam Gladys Dogbey, the Assembly Member of the area, expressed her excitement and satisfaction with the initiative and thanked Mr Miheso for his timely intervention.
She stated that about 400 residents benefited from the exercise and urged other benevolent organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture to give hope back to underprivileged ones.
Some beneficiaries, including Mr Korsi Susuawu and Mr Glova Adika, who spoke to Ghana News Agency, thanked Mr Miheso and the NHIS authority for alleviating their plight and noted that it was the first time such an initiative had been undertaken in the area.
They expressed their gratitude and hoped that more of such initiatives would follow, while others were optimistic about the positive impact it would have on their health and well-being.
They said that the free NHIS registration had brought hope to the underprivileged in Galo-Sota community which would also enable them to access quality healthcare with ease with the exercise been considered an example for other stakeholders to emulate in the communities.
Others said that Mr Miheso’s had made a significant difference in the lives of the community members, while his selfless act would be remembered for forever to inspire others to contribute to the development of the Anloga district to bring prosperity and growth to the area.
