Sunyani (Bono), Jan. 11, GNA – Some concerned royals of the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, custodians of the Sunyani Paramount stool, have cautioned Odeneho Akosua Dwaben II, the Paramount Queen-mother of the Dormaa Traditional Area to desist from interfering in the Sunyani Chieftaincy dispute.
They reminded the queen-mother that the dispute was pending before the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, and worried that: âmeddling in the dispute will not only worsen matters, but threaten the prevailing peace of Sunyani.â
Addressing a news conference in Sunyani, Mr Joseph A. Danquah, the spokesperson of the Nyantakyiwaa Family, one of three royal Gates of the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, said it was unfortunate that âOdeneho Dwaben II is interfering in the Sunyani Chieftaincy dispute.â
The family organised the press conference in reaction to some recent remarks made by Odeneho Dwaben during the one-year anniversary of the purported enstoolment of Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, as the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area.
Odenebo Dwaben II reportedly urged the chiefs and people of the Sunyani Traditional Area to unite and support Odeefour Korkor to facilitate the development of Sunyani and further invoked curses on any member of the royal family who might challenge Odeefour Korkor’s claim to the throne.
The royal family described the Queen-motherâs remarks as âunfortunate and unacceptable,â which had since generated tension in the traditional area.
They asked Odeneho Dwaben to retract her pronouncements and render an unqualified apology to the Boahen Korkor Royal family.Â
Flanked by other senior royals, including Nana Obiri Yeboah, the Head of the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, Mr Danquah said: âSunyani truly cherishes its friendship with the Dormaa people.â
âHowever, that doesnât give the Dormaa Paramount Queen-mother the right to meddle in our chieftaincy dispute because doing so will not augur well and will potentially disturb the prevailing peace in Sunyani,â he stated.
âIt is better that we wait and allow the high court to decide on the dispute in the supreme interest of peace, social cohesion and progressive development,â Mr Danquah stated.
Nana Abena Dokua, a member of the Boahen Korkor Royal family expressed her disappointment with the statements made by Odeneho Dwaben saying âwe expected her to know better.â
âOdeneho Dwaben II is one of the revered Paramount Queen-mothers in the country and so we never expected such remarks from her.
âWe expect her to retract and render an unreserved apology to the Boahen Korkor Royal Family and the entire Sunyani people,â Nana Dokua stated.
