Acheampong defeats Bawumia in Ketu North by 82 votes

Dzodze (V/R), Jan. 31, GNA – Dr Bryan Acheampong has secured victory in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary in the Ketu North Constituency, polling 374 votes to defeat the party’s former flagbearer and former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who garnered 292 votes, an 82-vote margin.

The primary, held at the Dzodze RC Demonstration Basic School, recorded a turnout of 741 delegates out of the 790 accredited delegates.

Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong placed third with 61 votes, followed by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum with seven votes, while Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong polled four votes.

Announcing the results, Mr Dominic Agbanu, the Returning Officer for the constituency, reported one spoilt ballot and two rejected ballots.

Some supporters of Dr Acheampong who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), expressed satisfaction with the outcome in the constituency and optimism about his prospects in other areas.

“Whatever happens at the national level, we are happy we delivered for him in this constituency,” one supporter remarked.
