Moscow, Dec 25, (dpa/GNA) – An overnight Ukrainian drone attack set tanks containing oil products ablaze in the port city of Temryuk in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, authorities in the city on the Sea of Azov reported on Thursday.
The blaze affected an area of 2,000 square metres in the city on the Taman Peninsula, they said. Dozens of fire service and civil protection officers were working to contain the fire.
The city was the target of a similar drone attack on the night leading up to December 5.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian oil installations, with the aim of disrupting fuel supplies to Russian forces fighting on Ukrainian territory, and also of depriving the Russian economy of a key income source.
The Russian Defence Ministry in Moscow reported that air defences had intercepted and destroyed 141 Ukrainian drones overnight. The Bryansk region on the border with Ukraine was worst hit.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also reported a number of downed drones.
Ukraine has been warding off a Russian full-scale invasion since February 2022 with assistance from its Western allies. Russian air attacks on Ukraine cause greater damage than Ukrainian attacks on Russia.
