Ho, Dec. 18, GNA – The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Basic School has donated assorted items worth thousands of cedis, to the Paediatric Unit of the Ho Teaching Hospital.
The items included soft drinks, food items, detergents, toiletries, and several bags of clothing, expected to reach about 200 children in the facility.
The gesture was part of the school’s annual outreach to support underprivileged children during the Christmas season.

The presentation, made on Wednesday, also formed part of the school’s practical character-building lessons to teach pupils about compassion, leadership and community service.
Mr Seth Korgah, the Headteacher of UHAS Basic School, said the donation reflected the school’s values and was tied to the subject; Character First Education, which promoted citizenship and humanitarian service.
“We are here with our widow’s mite as we have been doing every year. Our curriculum teaches children to be good neighbours and good citizens, and helping others is central to that,” he said.
Mr Korgah said the school’s annual charity programme had taken pupils to the Ho Municipal Hospital last year, Mepe, during the dam spillage disaster, and Madamfo Ghana Orphanage at Ho in earlier years.
The Headteacher said the school, established in 2021, integrated Christian values into its teaching, emphasising kindness and sacrifice, particularly during the festive season.

“We want to put smiles on the faces of other children. Some parents and children in the hospital may not be well resourced, so we came to support them,” he noted.
Mr Korgah added that the donation was also aimed at shaping future leaders who would learn to give back to society rather than depend on it.
“The items were provided by parents, staff and learners, and we are grateful for their goodwill,” he said.
Miss Irene O. Nwogu, a final-year pupil, said the gesture was to care for children who needed support and to share the spirit of Christmas, which was a time for sharing and caring about each other.
Mrs Mary Lucky Tautsi, the Nurse Manager, who received the items on behalf of the Paediatric Unit, expressed appreciation to the school and hoped for a sustained relationship and support in other areas of their needs as well.
