Tema, Dec. 06, GNA – Madam Ebi Bright, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, has encouraged the youth to venture into agricultural activities to support the export sector and aid the country’s economic growth.

Madam Bright said it was the responsibility of the youth to support the government’s agricultural initiatives to accelerate the transformation of the country’s agricultural sector to ensure food security, create sustainable jobs, and improve economic growth.

She said this would help reduce the importation of agricultural products and boost domestic production and export.

She made the call during the Tema metropolis commemoration of the National Farmers’ Day celebration under the national theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.”

She added that the youth should also enhance their processing capacity to improve access to made-in-Ghana products.

Mr George Batse, the Tema Metropolitan Director of Agriculture, urged Ghanaians to consume locally produced food items, which, according to him, were very nutritious, adding that doing so would serve as support for the local farmers and help prevent diet-related diseases.

Mr Batse noted that buying local produce empowers the farmers and leads to increased production and reduced reliance on imports.

Mr Ali Yunusan Halifa was declared the overall best farmer for the Tema Metropolis.
