Soldier arrested for alleged illegal weapons supply

Kumasi, Dec. 16, GNA – A Warrant Officer of the Fourth Infantry Battalion, WO Class One David Kofi Brew, has been arrested for allegedly supplying weapons to criminal groups in the Ashanti Region. 

Reports indicated that the arrest followed an undercover operation involving plain‑clothed investigators who posed as prospective buyers.  

Security sources said the suspect contacted the operatives and informed them that the weapons were ready for collection at the Bekwai Shell filling station. 

WO 1 Brew was arrested after allegedly handing over the weapons to the supposed buyers for GH¢80,000.  

During interrogation, he reportedly admitted selling weapons to individuals in and around Obuasi.  

Security agencies have intensified investigations and are said to be searching for suspected accomplices. 

The Ghana Armed Forces have not yet issued an official statement as investigations continue.
