Goaso (Ahafo), Sept. 26, GNA-The World Vision-Ghana, (WVG), a non-government organisation (NGO), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with two Assemblies in the Ahafo Region (AR) to push for the attainment of the Universal Service Coverage (USC) for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
According to the WVG, the MoU signed between Asunafo North Municipal and the Asutifi North District Assemblies, was part of efforts to accelerate the nation’s achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) six by 2030.
The United Nations (UN) global goal six enjoins countries around the world to achieve the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all.
With just about four years to go, Mr Cephas Wedam, the WVG’s Project Manager, USC for WASH said the NGO had signed the MoU with 23 districts and municipalities across the country.
He indicated that signing of the pact aimed at achieving a 90 percent threshold of providing clean water for about 700,000 people spread across local communities, including 200 schools and 300 health facilities.
Mr Wedam explained that the initiative was the WVG’s contribution towards the attainment of achieving the SDGs goal six.
Mr Joseph Frimpong Naayo, the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Director, emphasised the commitment of the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council to continue playing its monitoring role in ensuring the achievement of the objectives of the MoU.
Mr Robel Wamisho, the Acting National Director of the WVG and the Associate Director for WASH, signed the MoU for the WVG.
Mr Abdul Aziz Jafaaru, the Asutifi North District Coordinating Director and Mr Bismark Kyere Asante, the Asutifi North District Planning Officer also initialed the Asutifi North District Assembly.
For Asunafo North, Mr Benjamin Owusu Afriyie, the Asunafo North Municipal Coordinating Director and Madam Agnes Banaazi, the Asunafo North Municipal Planning Officer signed the MoU for the municipality.
