Nkwanta North (O/R), Dec. 6, GNA – Madam Ntebe Faustina, the best female farmer of the Nkwanta North District in the Oti Region, has called on women to embrace farming as a sustainable source of livelihood and a vital contribution to national food security.

The 2025 national farmers’ day celebration was held at Abunyanya, a suburb of the Nkwanta North District, and saw a display of a variety of crops.

Madam Ntebe, who has dedicated years to cultivating maize, Cassava, and livestock, expressed gratitude for the recognition.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, she said women played a critical role in Ghana’s agricultural sector, yet many feared  to venture into farming due to perceived hardships, limited resources, and social expectations.

She emphasised that with determination, proper training, and access to support systems, women could excel and become key contributors to the country’s food production chain.

Madam Ntebe added that agriculture presented vast opportunities, especially if the government continues to invest in modern farming technologies, empowerment programmes, and support schemes for stallholder farmers.

She encouraged young women to see farming not as a last resort but as a dignified and profitable profession capable of transforming families and communities.

Mr Usal Ntesinbo, the overall best farmer, urged the government to introduce incentives and support schemes to make agriculture more attractive, especially to the youth, as the sector required intensive labour and dedication.

The farmers in the area were celebrated for their hard work and commitment to feeding the nation, with several individuals receiving awards for excellence in various disciplines.

Mr Isaac Kudjo Dordoe, the District Chief Executive of Nkwanta North, also commended farmers for their dedication, urging more women to go into farming.
