Dawhenya, Dec. 15, GNA – The Ningo-Prampram District Assembly (NiPDA) has organised a clean-up exercise at ARS and Terrazzo junctions in Dawhenya as part of the activities to mark the National Sanitation Day programme.

The three-hour exercise brought together the District Chief Executive, District Coordinating Director, assembly members, food vendors, motor riders, drivers, assembly staff, environmental health officers and residents of the area.

Mr Raphael Uriel Nartey, the Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the clean-up exercise would be extended over a one-week period, to climax sanitation activities for the year.

Mr Nartey said the activities would be organised on a rotational basis across communities in the district, to prepare them for the festive season in terms of cleanliness.

He said the National Sanitation Day initiative had made a positive impact on communities in the district by promoting good sanitation practices.

He said the Assembly had also embarked on advocacy and sensitisation programmes, to educate residents on the importance of maintaining a clean environment and commended the Environmental Health Unit for enforcing sanitation laws and fining offenders.

Mr Nartey stated that a clean environment promoted productivity and helped prevent diseases.

Madam Evelyn Nani, the Ningo-Prampram District Environmental Health Officer, said maintaining a clean and healthy environment contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supported economic growth and development.

She urged residents to keep their surroundings clean, adding that the Assembly continued to undertake daily public education on sanitation to remind the public of their role in this direction.

Madam Nani said waste containers had been provided in some areas of the district, to promote the proper disposal of waste.
