Kadjebi (O/R), Dec. 19, GNA – The Martin Kordzi wooden footbridge over the Dubonku Stream in the Dubonku Electoral Area of the Kadjebi District has deteriorated badly and is at risk of imminent collapse, sparking urgent calls for its reconstruction to prevent possible loss of lives.
Raising the concern at a Kadjebi District Assembly Sitting at Kadjebi in the Oti Region, Mr Sampson Quarshiga, a Government Appointee to the Assembly, drew attention to the deteriorating condition of the bridge and appealed for immediate intervention.
Mr Quarshiga said the bridge, which serves as a vital crossing point for schoolchildren attending Anthony School Complex, Kadjebi R.C. JHS and Primary, Kadjebi E.P. Central JHS and Primary, as well as other residents, had become extremely dangerous, stressing that the culture of waiting for disasters to occur before taking action must be discouraged.
He disclosed that the situation had become so worrying that he had advised his wife and children not to use the bridge for fear of possible accidents.
Responding to the concerns, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kadjebi, Dr Sam Issaka Suraj, assured residents that the Assembly would take steps to address the problem and work towards fixing the bridge.
Dr Suraj also appealed to individuals, philanthropists and benevolent organisations to support the Assembly in mobilising resources to resolve the challenge and improve safety for residents in the area.
The Martin Kordzi footbridge plays a crucial role in facilitating movement and access within the Dubonku Electoral Area, and its reconstruction is expected to significantly enhance safety and livelihoods in the community.
