Kete-krachi(O/R), Dec. 08, GNA- The Krachi West Municipal Assembly has honoured outstanding farmers and fisherfolks at the 41st Municipal Farmers’ Day celebration held at Ehiamankyene in the Oti Region.

The event, themed, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” recognised hardworking individuals whose dedication continued to strengthen agricultural production and promote food security in the municipality.

Mr. Bingo Yaw, a mixed farmer from Bommoden, was adjudged the 2025 Overall Municipal Best Farmer. He received a brand-new motorised tricycle and bags of fertiliser as his prize.

Mr Nteh Edward from Gyaesayor emerged First Runner-Up, taking home a brand-new motorbike, while Mr. Kumah Clement from Dadekro received a double-door refrigerator as the Second Runner-Up.

In a historic event for the municipality, Mr. Agbenyeke Nicholas, a fisherman from Kponfri, was named Municipal Best Fisherman. He was presented with a 15-horsepower outboard motor.

The ceremony drew a large gathering of dignitaries, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Prosper Addo, heads of departments and agencies, security services, traditional authorities, community leaders, youth groups, farmers, fisherfolk and their families.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Addo urged households, schools, restaurants, and food vendors to prioritise the consumption of Ghanaian foods to support the local agricultural sector.

He highlighted several government interventions aimed at improving agricultural productivity, such as the expansion of irrigation facilities, increased mechanisation services, and the establishment of agricultural service centres across the municipality.

The MCE disclosed that over 2,000 bags of fertiliser had been distributed to farmers this year to boost production. He encouraged residents of Ehiamankyene, the host community, to uphold peace and unity as key drivers of development.

Mr. Bingo Yaw, the Overall Best Farmer, expressed appreciation to the government for its continued support to the agricultural sector. He appealed for the provision of essential farming tools—including Wellington boots, spraying machines, fertilisers and cutlasses—to further enhance productivity.

He also advised farmers to seek expert guidance from agricultural extension officers before undertaking major farming activities.

In all, 20 individual farmers, one farmer-based organisation (FBO), two schools, and one large-scale farm were honoured for their exceptional contributions to agricultural development in the Krachi West Municipality.
