Accra, Dec. 29, GNA – The John Ajet-Nasam family has donated food items, medical supplies and vocational equipment to the Krachi Prisons, in fulfilment of a pledge made during an earlier visit to the facility in September.

The donation included a cow to support the nutritional needs of inmates, assorted medicines, three blood pressure (BP) monitors for the prison infirmary, and two industrial sewing machines for the tailoring shop at the facility.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. John Ajet-Nasam said the gesture was driven by concern for the welfare and rehabilitation of inmates, particularly after observing gaps during his previous visit.

“When I visited earlier in September, I promised to donate a cow to help put protein in the meals of inmates,” he said.

“I also realised that the infirmary had no medicines, so we decided to purchase assorted drugs and BP monitors to support basic healthcare delivery,” he added.

Mr. Ajet-Nasam explained that the donation of industrial sewing machines was intended to strengthen vocational training at the prison, enabling inmates who were eager to learn a trade to acquire employable skills.

“The tailoring shop plays an important role in rehabilitation. Providing these machines will help inmates develop skills that can support them when they reintegrate into society,” he added.

During the visit, inmates offered prayers for Mr. Ajet-Nasam and his family, expressing gratitude for the support and concern shown towards their welfare.

The Officer-in-Charge of the Krachi Prisons expressed appreciation to the donor and his family for the timely and thoughtful donation, noting that the items would significantly improve healthcare delivery, nutrition and vocational training at the facility.

He said the support complemented government efforts and called on other individuals, families and corporate bodies to emulate the gesture by supporting correctional facilities to enhance inmate welfare and rehabilitation outcomes.
