Ho Zongo shooting: 14 suspects arrested, nine victims discharged

Ho, Dec. 29, GNA – About 14 suspects have been arrested and are assisting the Police in investigations, to delve into cause of a shooting incident at the Central Mosque of Ho Zongo. 

Chief Inspector Francis Gomado, the Volta Regional Police Public Relations Officer, briefing the Ghana News Agency said the Police Command had escalated intelligence into the matter. 

He said all nine victims, who suffered various degrees of injuries had been treated and discharged, apart from those entitled for reviews who needed to return for further medical assessment. 

He appealed to the public to continue to volunteer critical information into the shooting incident towards assisting the Police to facilitate bringing the culprits to justice. 

The sporadic shooting incident occurred at the Ho Central Mosque during Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers on December 26, 2025, leaving some worshippers with gunshot injuries orchestrated by unknown persons. 

Meanwhile, security sources said the shooting followed rising tensions within the Zongo community, with speculations linking it to disagreements over spiritual leadership of the Muslim community. 

The Police have not officially confirmed the cause of the incident, and residents are awaiting an official statement from security authorities as investigations continue.
