Ho, Nov 03, GNA – Ho Technical University (HTU) has entered into a tripartite collaboration with the Royal West African Air (RWAA) and the Morocco Aviation Private Academy (MAPA) to facilitate the rollout of aviation sciences programmes and advance plans towards the establishment of the West Africa College of Aviation Sciences (WACAS).Â
The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 30, 2026, following preliminary discussions held a day earlier between the three institutions at the University’s campus in Ho.
The collaboration seeks to leverage the expertise of the RWAA and MAPA to support curriculum development, practical training, research and capacity building in aviation education, while positioning HTU as a centre for specialised aviation training in Ghana and the West African sub-region.
Prof Ben Quarshie Honyenuga, the Vice-Chancellor of HTU, speaking during the engagement, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strategic partnerships that promote industry-focused education, innovation and global competitiveness.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration would not only facilitate the rollout of Aviation Sciences programmes but also expand the University’s international reach and influence within the aviation education landscape.
Prof Honyenuga further assured the partners of HTU’s preparedness and commitment to see through the successful implementation of the initiative, describing it as a transformative opportunity to position the University as a leading hub for aviation education, training and research in Ghana and the wider West African region.
Mr Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker, the Chief Executive Officer of RWAA, underscored the potential of Ho’s aviation infrastructure to support aviation training and workforce development.
He emphasised on the need to build local capacity within the aviation sector and create opportunities for young Ghanaians to pursue professional careers in aviation.
The delegation also included Mr Stephen Asante Bekui, Legal Counsel, and Captain Odeh Rajah, leader of the MAPA delegation, who highlighted the academy’s extensive experience in aviation education and pilot training and expressed confidence in the prospects of the partnership.
The MoU marks a significant step towards the introduction of Aviation Sciences programmes at HTU and the development of a skilled workforce to support the growth of the aviation industry in Ghana and beyond.
The meeting was attended by members of University Management, including the Acting Registrar, Dr Michael Todoko, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof Maxwell Akple, members of the faculty, and other officers of the University.
