Help expand Abuakwa polyclinic to cope with increasing patient enrolment – Dr Manye

By Charles Tawiah, GNA

Abuakwa (Ash) Dec. 08, GNA – Dr Mensah Manye, Medical Superintendent of the Abuakwa Polyclinic in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality has stressed the need for the expansion of the facility to cope with the increasing number of patients seeking health care every day.

He said the operational area of the facility was above its current patient enrolment capacity and therefore, needed urgent infrastructural expansion and equipment to meet increasing patient demand and improve quality healthcare delivery at the facility.

Dr Manye made the appeal during a presentation of an expansion work plan of the facility to the Abuakwa traditional council by a team from the Municipal Assembly led by Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Chief Executive (MCE).

He saidthe facility was upgraded to the Polyclinic from its original health center status about two years ago.

At that time,, it served over 10,000 inhabitants in Abuakwa township alone in addition to other residents from the surrounding communities.

He pointed out that the facility was always compelled to admit only 30 out of the over 100 patients who needed admission due to lack of space.

The rest are always referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

Dr Manyeth appealed for urgent action to expand the infrastructure to help ensure effective and quality health care delivery to the people.

The plan’s presentation paved way for discussions on strategies and initiatives of the renovation and expansion works on the facility between the traditional council and the Municipal Assembly.

A technical proposal designed by the technocrats of the Assembly, detailing the work plan, was unveiled to the traditional council, after which the chiefs also shared ideas and suggestions.

Both the Assembly and the palace agreed to form a technical committee to ensure a smooth, transparent, and timely delivery of the project.

Mr. Boamah described the work as a necessity for the people, a priority to him, and a fulfilment of his campaign promise when he was a Parliamentary Candidate (PC) during the 2024 elections.

He appealed for a collaborative and transparent execution of the project by the technical committee and all stakeholders.

Nana Appiah Brempong, Abuakwahene received the work plan and pledged his support to ensure the targeted completion time of the project for its intended purpose.

He introduced Mr. Emmanuel Agyemang, a citizen of the town, who is seeking greener pastures in the United Kingdom (UK) as a patriotic citizen and potential representative of the palace to the technical committee.
