Accra, Dec 31, GNA-The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has donated firefighting equipment and Christmas gifts to the Osu Children’s Home.
It is part of efforts to promote fire safety awareness and bring joy to the children during the festive season.
The items donated include 20 pieces of 9KG dry powder extinguishers, 10 pieces CO2, 50 pieces of smoke alarms, packs of bottled and sachet water, beverages, biscuits, and Christmas souvenirs.
Mrs Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sarpong, the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the GNFS, who presented on behalf of the Service said it was their little way to show love and support to the orphanage.
She said safety remained a top priority for the Service, particularly during the Christmas period when fire incidents tend to increase.
The CFO reminded children and their guardians of the importance of fire safety and emergency preparedness, urging them to be vigilant at all times.
“Fire is a good servant but can be a bad master,” he cautioned, advising children never to play with candles, matchsticks, fire, or electrical gadgets, and to always raise an alarm when they see smoke or fire.
Mrs Ntow-Sarpong noted that the GNFS was proud to support the Home with firefighting equipment and smoke detectors, which would be installed across the entire facility to enhance emergency preparedness and ensure the safety of both children and staff.
As part of the Christmas celebration, the Service also donated snacks and Christmas gifts to the children to make the festive season memorable and joyful for them.
She commended the management and staff of the institution for their dedication to creating a safe, caring, and nurturing environment for the children, describing their efforts as vital to the well-being and development of the young ones.
He assured that the gesture would be replicated across the regions to ensure others benefited.
Master Kofi Andoh, an inmate of the Osu Children’s Home, on behalf of the management and the children expressed gratitude to the Service for the gesture, adding that the support would bring safety to the home.
