Ghana to host WARIF’s ‘No Tolerance March’ to Combat Gender-Based Violence

Accra, Dec. 4, GNA – The Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF), a leading non-profit organisation, is set to expand its annual global “No Tolerance March” against sexual and gender-based violence to Ghana for the first time.

The march aims to raise awareness and mobilize communities to stand against rape and sexual violence.

The initiative, which commemorates the 16 Days of Activism campaign, will be implemented in Ghana by the Springboard Road Show Foundation (SRSF), led by Mrs. Comfort Ocran.

According to global statistics, one in three women will experience a violent sexual encounter before the age of 18, underscoring the urgency for action.

Since its inception, the No Tolerance March has grown significantly, attracting local and international partners who join annually to advocate for zero tolerance for sexual violence.

The 2025 edition will span 18 cities worldwide, including Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Maiduguri, Zamfara, Sokoto, Accra, Nairobi, London, Paris, New York, Atlanta, Texas, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Minnesota, and Frankfurt.

In Ghana, the march on Saturday December 6, will begin at the University of Ghana, Legon Campus, proceed through the Legon Okponglo corridor into East Legon via Lagos Avenue, and return to campus for a closing rally.

The route symbolizes the shared responsibility of academic, residential, and civic communities in ending gender-based violence.

Mrs. Comfort Ocran described the event as “a national call to conscience,” adding: “We walk to affirm that every woman and girl deserves to live free from fear, and that every community has a duty to protect its most vulnerable.
On 6th December, we stand together, not in protest, but in purpose: to choose dignity, to choose safety, and to choose a Ghana where violence has no place.”

The Ark Foundation Ghana, a leading advocate for women and children’s protection, has joined the campaign to provide expertise in survivor support, legal advocacy, and public education.

Organizers invite youth groups, women’s organizations, student bodies, corporate institutions, faith communities, traditional authorities, development partners, and the general public to participate in the march.

The Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) is a non -profit organisation founded by Dr. Kemi Dasilva -Ibru to address the high incidence of rape, sexual violence, and trafficking of young girls and women.
