Kumasi, Dec. 25, GNA – Economic and social activities in Kumasi have intensified as residents make final preparations towards the celebration of Christmas, creating a lively atmosphere across the metropolis.
Major commercial centres such as Kejetia, Asafo and Adum have witnessed increased trading activities, with shoppers purchasing food items, clothing and other household necessities for the festivities.
Traders expressed optimism about sales, although some noted that high prices had affected the purchasing power of customers.
Transport terminals across the city have also recorded brisk movement, as travellers journey to various destinations to join families and loved ones for the season.
This has resulted in congestion on some principal roads, particularly within the Central Business District, slowing vehicular movement during peak hours.
Some commuters raised concerns about delays and the adjustment of transport fares, calling for restraint on the part of drivers during the festive period.
Security agencies, including the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, have intensified patrols and traffic management to ensure public safety and free flow of traffic.
Officers were observed at strategic intersections assisting motorists and pedestrians.
Religious institutions and entertainment centres are expected to host special programmes to mark Christmas Day, with many residents expressing hope that the season would bring peace, unity and renewed commitment to communal living.
Despite economic challenges, the festive spirit remains evident, as families look forward to celebrating Christmas in harmony.
