Akatsi (VR), Dec. 08, GNA – A total of 1,095 residents within the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region have been registered onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which comprised new registration and renewals.
The exercise, which was extended to selected communities within the Municipality, was fully financed by Mr Edem Ackuaku, a government appointee at the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and the Chief Executive of Delmark Agro and Pharmacy.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the five-day exercise, Mr Ackuaku explained that the decision was aimed at ensuring his people received good health care without financial constraints.
He further stated that as an entrepreneur, giving back to society remained his topmost priority adding “a healthy community is a healthy economy.”
Mr Ackuaku, who is largely into agrobusiness and a former Municipal Best Farmer, expressed his appreciation to officials from the NHIS who collaborated with him for the smooth exercise.
He said he desired to keep supporting key sectors of society that required attention and support for growth.
The exercise with communities such as Lume, Ahlihadzi, Avenorpedo, and Avenorpeme benefited, saw a total of 207 new registrants and 888 renewals.
Some beneficiaries who expressed gratitude for the offer, however, called for the sustainability of the gesture in order to ensure total health coverage for all.
