Koforidua, Dec. 08, GNA – To restock the Eastern Regional Hospital’s blood bank, the Regional Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Hospital Blood Bank have organised a blood donation exercise, calling on corporate bodies to participate.

The exercise was held at the Oti Boateng Senior High School in the New Juaben South Municipality, where teachers and voluntary donors participated.

Ms Anita Owusu-Kuffour, the Eastern Regional Head of the FDA, said the blood donation exercise was part of the Authority’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

She said blood was essential for life and a critical resource for medical treatments, surgeries, and emergencies, and encouraged individuals to support the cause to save life and improve the health of others.

Ms Philomina Quayson, the Eastern Regional Blood Bank Donor Organiser of the Regional Hospital, said people 17 years and above could donate, and the processes involved a check on the donor’s weight, hemoglobin, and other health conditions.

“The blood donation exercise during this festive season is timely because Christmas has its own fatalities, and the Regional Hospital is a referral point for about 26 district hospitals, including private ones,” she said.

She entreated organisations and institutions to help restock the blood bank, noting that donating blood at least once a year can help improve your blood flow and reduce arterial blockages.

Ms Quayson called on drivers to comply with road rules to curb the rate at which accidents occur during the Christmas season.
