Adidome (VR), Dec. 09, GNA – The Tsetsekpo – Aklakpa bridges have been restored to re–open smooth traffic flow along the Adidome-Juapong corridor.
The development has prompted drivers and community members to mobilise voluntary labour to expedite action on access improvements on the Aklakpa bridge approaches, which network remained a challenge to road users.
Mr Guggisberg Fiagbenu, Chairman of the Adidome–Juapong Transport Union, and Assembly Member of the Adidome Central Electoral Area said the removal of the blockade on the bridges followed recent appeals to government for the urgent commissioning of both bridges ahead of the Christmas season.
He noted that although final works remained outstanding on the Aklakpa bridge, with the creation of an access road to align with the concrete slab, some drivers have begun using the stretch upon hearing the open of the road.
To protect the life span of the structure, members of the Union have started preliminary access to work on the problem through communal labour.
Mr Fiagbenu said the Union had anticipated that Joshob Construction Company Limited, contractors on the Adidome–Juapong road project, would complete the access linkage, but the urgency of the situation required immediate community action.
He has therefore written to the District Chief Executive of Central Tongu requesting logistical support, including a tipper truck, wheel loader or backhoe, and a compactor, to ensure proper finishing works.
He expressed appreciation to the government for progress on both bridges and reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to fulfilling its pledge to reduce transport fares.
“Following consultations with drivers from Adidome and Juapong, a five per cent reduction in transport fares took effect on December 8, 2025,” he said.
Mr Fiagbenu called for understanding from authorities regarding the premature use of the bridge, stressing that he assumed full responsibility for the decision in the interest of easing the severe hardship faced by commuters.
He appealed to the government not to neglect the alternative route, which remains in poor condition.
Pursuant to this, Mr Fiagbenu called on the Adidome Police Command and relevant security institutions to support in regulating traffic and enforce drivers’ compliance with the five per cent deduction in transport fares.
He commended the Ghana News Agency and other media partners for amplifying the concerns of the public and supporting the collective effort to ensure safer and more efficient transportation for the region.
He extended gratitude to the Bridge Maintenance Unit of the Ghana Highway Authority at Kukurantumi, particularly Mr Roland Apiani for work on the Aklakpa bridge, and Project Supervisor Jonas Asamoa Peprah for progress on the Tsetsekpo bridge.
