Accra, Nov.24, GNA-The Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially launched Agenda 2028, an initiative aimed at grooming athletes ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games and other major sporting events.

The program sets out a comprehensive range of interventions designed to transform grassroots sports, improve coaching standards, and strengthen sports structures at the district level.

Mr. Dzibodo Ruben Adjahoe, Physical Education Officer at the NSA Volta Secretariat described the initiative as a bold and transformative roadmap that seeks to position the Volta Region as a strong contributor to Ghana’s Olympic ambitions.

He emphasized that the Agenda 2028 seeks to empower athletes across all districts through improved structures, training opportunities, and sustainable support systems.

It focuses on key areas, including District-Level Capacity Building, the formation of District Sports Clubs, District and Regional Competitions, the TrainHer Women’s Sports Empowerment Program, a Fitness and Recreation Program, and the Volta Sports Awards.

As part of its accountability and monitoring framework, the Secretariat would institute a quarterly NSA Dialogue, a review platform that would comprehensively assess programs, implementation progress, and performance outcomes under the initiative.

Mr. Adjahoe explained that the quarterly sessions would serve as an important mechanism to evaluate the effectiveness of activities, strengthen collaboration with stakeholders, and ensure that every component of the agenda stays on course.

“With the right support, structures, and partnerships, we are confident that the Volta Region will produce athletes who can compete on the Olympic stage in 2028 and beyond,” he said.

The Volta NSA maintains that Agenda 2028 represents a viable and sustainable pathway to producing world-class athletes capable of competing at the highest level.

The Secretariat has also called on district assemblies, schools, sports federations, and corporate bodies to join forces in bringing Agenda 2028 to life.
