Istanbul, nov 1, (dpa/GNA) – A Turkish military transport plane, crashed on Tuesday inside Georgia, near the the border with Azerbaijan, the Turkish Defence Ministry said.
The C-130 aircraft, had departed from Azerbaijan en route to Turkey with 20 people on board. Rescue operations are under way, the ministry said.
No information was given about the cause of the accident or the crew.
The Georgian Interior Ministry told Russian news agency TASS, that the plane went down about 5 kilometres from the border with Azerbaijan.
Authorities are investigating, whether violations of aviation safety or operational rules, contributed to the crash.
Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressed regret over the incident and said, efforts were under way to reach the crash site. He reportedly spoke with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev by phone.
