Accra, Nov. 25, GNA — Mr Alban K.S. Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has been honored with the Mahatma Gandhi Award for World Unity, a testament to his global reputation as a champion of good governance, peace building, and international diplomacy.
The award was presented at the 26th International Conference of Chief Justices of the World (ICCJW) in Lucknow, India, where the Speaker was recognised for his unwavering commitment to promoting world unity and peace, particularly in protecting children from the ravages of war.
“The world is in dire need of leaders like Mr Bagbin, who secretes the milk of love and kindness to nourish children into becoming the Mahatma Gandhis, Kwame Nkrumah’s and Nelson Mandela’s of tomorrow,” Professor Sandeep Srivastava, the Project Leader of ICCJW said.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Mr David Sabastian Damoah, the Director, Media Relations, Parliament and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.
The statement said Ambassador Jonathan Rexford Magnussen, Ghana’s Ambassador to the Republic of Niger, who received the award on behalf of the Speaker, expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged Mr Bagbin’s continued dedication to championing unity and peace globally.
“Not only is Mr Bagbin a global parliamentary colossus with enormous respect and influence on international parliamentary affairs, but he is also an acclaimed peace broker who is currently a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s Task Force charged with resolving the Russia-Ukraine war,” the statement quoted Ambassador Magnussen as saying.
The Mahatma Gandhi Award for World Unity is the latest addition to Speaker Bagbin’s impressive collection of honors and leadership positions, recognising his international statesmanship and contributions to global democracy.
