Cape Coast, Nov 02, GNA – Achimota School has secured the last slot for the semi-finals of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after taking a successful revenge on Keta SHTS and crashing Koforidua SHTS in the last quarterfinal contest of the competition.

Having led the contest from the beginning, Achimota finished with a thumping 50 points with Keta and Koforidua securing 34 and 31 points respectively.

Last year, Keta gave Achimota a shock of their life when the Volta Region school eliminated the Greater Accra school in the quarterfinals and proceeded to battle it out with Mfantsipim School and St Augustine’s College in the grand finale.

This time, Achimota resolved to make a statement and live up to their name, ending the first round with 20 points as against 11 and 18 obtained respectively, by Keta and Koforidua.

Koforidua SHTS continued to breath down the neck of Achimota in the second round with only two points shy of Achimota’s 27 points at the end of the speed race.

However, Keta seemed completely out of the competition after shedding a point to come down to 10.

Achimota consolidated their lead in the third round after securing a perfect score of 10 points for the “problem of the day” while Koforidua SHTS let down their guard to bag only a single point, leaving Keta to steal the second position having scored eight.

The story was similar in the True/False session as it ended with 47, 28, and 27 points for Achimota, Keta, and Koforidua respectively.

After four riddles had been read in the fifth and final round, Achimota School qualified with 50 points to kick out Keta and Koforidua SHTS.

Achimota is seeking to end their 21-year-old title drought this year, however, they must surmount two tall mountains, Opoku Ware School and St Peter’s SHS in the Semi-finals on Monday, November 03, at 17:00 hours to make it to the finals.

Meanwhile an exciting battle has been booked among Mankranso SHS, Ghana Secondary Technical School and Mfantsipim School on Monday at 09:00 hours.

Amaniampong SHS, Pope John SHS and Minor Seminary, and St Augustine’s will follow immediately at 13:30 hours.
